Amanda Brugel (born March 24, 1978 in Pointe-Claire , Québec ) is a Canadian actress . She gained fame primarily through her role as Michelle Krasnoff in the Canadian sitcom Seed and her series roles in Orphan Black and The Handmaid's Tale - The Maid's Report .

life and career

Amanda Brugel was born the daughter of an African American and was later adopted by a Canadian woman and her husband from Southeast Asia. Her adoptive parents informed her of this when she was eleven years old. Amanda Brugel was a dancer at a young age . After graduation, she was admitted to York University in Toronto via the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship . She graduated in 2000 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theater.

A year earlier, she made her acting debut in front of the camera, with a small role in the television film Vendetta - The Law of Violence by the broadcaster HBO, starring Christopher Walken and Clancy Brown . In 2001 she worked as a Geko in the horror film Jason X to see. Other film roles followed as Emma in The Birds - Attack From Above and as Amanda in The Death of Alice Blue .

Her guest appearances in series include Kojak , The Newsroom , This is Wonderland , Saving Hope , Flashpoint - Das Spezialkommando , Warehouse 13 , Nikita , Covert Affairs and Dark Matter .

In 2008 Brugel starred in the MVP series as Megan Chandler in a supporting role. She was also part of the cast of the soap opera Paradise Falls that year as Lynnie Jordan . In 2013 she starred as Vanessa in the Canadian comedy Sex After Kids . She received an ACTRA Award for her performance and was also nominated for a Canadian Comedy Awards . Also in 2013, she starred in the sitcom Seed as Michelle Krasnoff . However, the series was discontinued after a year, so that she impersonated the role in a total of 26 episodes.

In 2014 she played a small role in David Cronenberg's satire drama Maps to the Stars , and as Officer Vongarner in The Calling: Call of Evil with Susan Sarandon . In 2015 Brugel took on a recurring role as Marci Coates in the third season of the series Orphan Black and was also seen as Officer Parker in the film Raum by director Lenny Abrahamson . Small supporting roles also followed in Suicide Squad and Sadie's Last Days on Earth .

Since 2016 Brugel can be seen as Pastor Nina Gomez in Sicom Kim's Convenience in a recurring role. A year later, she was part of the cast of the series The Handmaid's Tale as Rita , which expanded to a leading role with the beginning of the second season of 2018.

Others

In 2013, Brugel founded the non-profit organization Brugs Army , which uses social media to support the interests of women and children from difficult backgrounds. She has been married to Marcel Lewis since 2008, with whom she has two sons, Jude and Phoenix. Brugel is also the face of the Canada Media Fund campaign.
