Amelie Kober (born November 16, 1987 in Bad Aibling ) is a German snowboarder .

Career

Kober drove her first World Cup race in January 2004 in Alpe d'Huez , which she finished in 19th place in the parallel giant slalom. At the Junior World Championships in 2004 and 2005, she won silver in the parallel giant slalom. At the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin , she won the silver medal in the parallel giant slalom as an outsider . The members of the federal police only had to admit defeat to the Swiss Daniela Meuli . At the 2007 World Championships in Arosa , Kober also won silver in the same discipline, this time behind Russian Ekaterina Tudegeschewa .

She secured her Olympic ticket for Turin 2006 with a second place at the FIS Snowboard World Cup 2005/2006 in Sölden in the women's parallel giant slalom. That was her best career result to date. Third place in this competition went to Daniela Meuli from Switzerland .

For her appearance in Turin she was voted Germany's Junior Sportswoman of the Year 2006. On July 17, 2006, she was awarded the Bavarian Sports Prize in the “Outstanding Young Athlete” category at the Munich Congress Center (ICM) .

In the 2009 World Cup season , after finishing 30th, 12th and 14th, Kober won five of the last six races at the start of the season and finished second once. With victory in the last race of the season in Valmalenco , she ousted the leading Austrian Doris Günther from first place in the Parallel discipline and secured the small crystal ball. She was third in the overall World Cup. At the Snowboard World Championship 2009 in Gangwon she reached the 31st place in the parallel slalom and the tenth place in the parallel giant slalom.

In the 2010 World Cup season , she won the PGS World Cup at Sudelfeld as a local hero . At the 2010 Winter Olympics , Kober was eliminated in the quarter-finals. Due to her pregnancy, she decided not to start in the subsequent classification race for places 5-8 and thus achieved eighth place. At the Snowboard World Championships 2011 in La Molina she came in sixth place in the parallel slalom and fourth in the parallel giant slalom.

On January 25, 2013 Kober won the bronze medal in the parallel giant slalom and in the parallel slalom at the Snowboard World Championships in Canada.

A year later, at the 2014 Winter Olympics , she won the bronze medal in the parallel slalom behind the Austrian Julia Dujmovits and the German Anke Karstens, despite a bony capsule tear in her elbow . For this she received the Silver Laurel Leaf from Federal President Gauck on May 8, 2014 .

In the summer of 2019, Kober announced her retirement from active competitive sports.

The home club of the German champion in parallel slalom and parallel giant slalom in 2004 and two-time junior vice world champion is SC Miesbach in Upper Bavaria .
