Amphoe Khuan Khanun ( Thai : อำเภอ ควนขนุน ) is a district ( Amphoe - administrative district) in Phatthalung Province . Phatthalung Province is located in the southern region of Thailand , about 840 kilometers south of Bangkok on the Malay Peninsula .

Neighboring districts and areas (clockwise from south): Amphoe Mueang Phatthalung , Srinagarindra , Si Banphot and Pa Phayom of Phatthalung Province, Amphoe Cha-uat of Nakhon Si Thammarat Province, and Amphoe Ranot of Songkhla Province .

The Phru-Khuan-Khi-Sian wetlands on Lake Thale Noi have been protected under the Ramsar Convention since 1998 and are part of the “Thale Noi Wildlife Non-Hunting Area”. Thale Noi is the northern part of Lake Songkhla , which is separated from the larger Thale Luang by a 50 cm high natural sandbar. The two bodies of water are connected by an approximately 2 km wide canal. Thale Noi, only about 28 km² in size, is surrounded by 459 km² of marshland.

The district of Khuan Khanun was established in 1896 under the name of Udon ( อุดร ), the administration was first located in village 5 of Tambon Khuan Khanun, it has since been moved four times: in 1899 to Ban Makok Tai, the district in Makok Tai ( มะกอก ใต้ ) renamed, then in 1903 Pak Phra ( ปาก พระ ). In 1907 it was relocated to Ban Thale Noi, the district was also given the new name Thale Noi ( ทะเล น้อย ), later relocation to Ban Phanang Tung with a renaming to Phanang Tung ( พ นาง ตุง ). After all, the administration has been in its current location in Ban Khuan Khanun since 1923.

Makok Nuea ( เทศบาล ตำบล มะกอก เหนือ ) consists of parts of the Tambon Makok Nuea.
Nong Pho ( เทศบาล ตำบล หนอง พ้อ ) consists of further parts of the Tambon Khuan Khanun.
Na Khayat ( เทศบาล ตำบล นา ขยาด ) consists of the whole Tambon Na Khayat.
Ban Suan ( เทศบาล ตำบล บ้าน สวน ) consists of other parts of the Tambon Makok Nuea.
Phanang Tung ( เทศบาล ตำบล พ นาง ตุง ) consists of the whole tambon Phanang Tung.
Thale Noi ( เทศบาล ตำบล ทะเล น้อย ) consists of the whole tambon Thale Noi.
Tanot Duan ( เทศบาล ตำบล โตนด ด้วน ) consists of the whole tambon Tanot Duan.
Phraek Ha ( เทศบาล ตำบล แพรก หา ) consists of the whole tambon Phraek Ha.
Laem Tanot ( เทศบาล ตำบล แหลม โตนด ) consists of the whole tambon Laem Tanot.

There are also four “tambon administration organizations” (TAO, องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล ) for the tambon in the county that do not belong to any city.
