Amphoe Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya ( Thai : อำเภอ พระนครศรีอยุธยา , pronunciation: ʔāmpʰɤ̄ː pʰráʔ náʔkʰɔ̄ːn sǐː ʔājúttʰājāː ) is a district ( Amphoe - administrative district) of the province of Ayutthaya ("Province of Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya"). Ayutthaya Province is located in the central region of Thailand .

Amphoe Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya is located in the center of the province. The neighboring counties (clockwise from north) are Bang Pahan , Nakhon Luang , Uthai , Bang Pa In , Bang Sai, and Bang Ban . All counties are in Ayutthaya Province.

history

Today's Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya district was initially called Rop Krung ( รอบ กรุง - " Surrounding the capital"). It was established in 1897. In 1917 it was renamed Krung Kao ( กรุง เก่า - "Old Capital"). In 1957 the name was changed to "Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya" to commemorate the ancient capital of the Kingdom of Ayutthaya . Since the districts of the capital cities of Thai provinces are usually called Amphoe Mueang followed by the name of the province, the naming of the Amphoe Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya is unique.

• Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya (Thai: เทศบาลนคร พระนครศรีอยุธยา) consisting of the complete Tambon Pratu Chai, Kamang, Ho Rattanachai, Hua Ro, Tha Wasukri and the parts of the Tambon Hantra, Ban Ko, Khlong Suan Phlu, Khlong Sa Bua, Ko Rian.

There is one commune with "city" status ( Thesaban Mueang ) in the district:

• Ayothaya (Thai: เทศบาล เมือง อ โยธ ยา ) consisting of the complete Tambon Phai Ling and parts of the Tambon Hantra, Khlong Suan Phlu.
