Amphoe Bang Pahan ( Thai : อำเภอ บางปะหัน , pronunciation: ʔāmpʰɤ̄ː.bāːŋ.pā.hǎn ) is a district ( Amphoe - administrative district) in the northern part of Ayutthaya Province ("Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province"). Ayutthaya Province is located in the central region of Thailand .

Neighboring counties (clockwise from the north): Amphoe Maha Rat , Nakhon Luang , Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya and Bang Ban of Ayutthaya Province and Amphoe Pa Mok of Ang Thong Province .
history
Refugees of the Phuan ethnic group from Vientiane founded the first settlement here during the reign of King Phra Phutthaloetla Naphalai ( Rama II ) . They also built a windmill in their village, so it was named Bang Kanghan, from the Thai word for windmill (Kanghan, กังหัน ). The name later became Pahan due to a misspelling.
The county was initially established as Nakhon Luang Nai, but renamed Bang Pahan, the name of the central tambon , in 1916 .
