Amphoe Phu Khiao ( Thai : อำเภอ ภูเขียว ) is a district ( Amphoe - administrative district) in the north of the province of Chaiyaphum . The province of Chaiyaphum is located in the northeast region of Thailand , the so-called Isan .

The neighboring districts start clockwise from the north: Amphoe Chum Phae in the province of Khon Kaen and the Amphoe Ban Thaen , Kaeng Khro , Kaset Sombun and Khon San in the province of Chaiyaphum.

history

Phu Khiao was a city-state ( Mueang ) in the early Rattanakosin period , the center of which was in Ban Mueang Kao in what is now the district of Kaset Sombun . The center later moved to Ban Kut Chueak, and even later to Ban Non Salao.

During the Thesaphiban administrative reform, Mueang Phu Khiao was downgraded to an Amphoe of Chaiyaphum Province in 1899. It was later renamed Phak Pang after the central tambon and returned to Phu Khiao in 1939.

Attractions

• Phrathat Nong Sam Muen (also: "Phra That Nong Sam Mun", Thai: พระ ธาตุ หนอง สาม หมื่น ) - Buddhist temple ( Wat ) in Tambon Ban Kaeng with an allegedly 500 year old Chedi , which here That ( ธาตุ , lit .: Relic ) is called. It may also be from the same time as Wat Phra That Phanom . There is also a large reclining Buddha statue and several statues of Thai mythology.

There are four municipalities with "small town" status ( Thesaban Tambon ) in the district:

• Ban Kaeng (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล บ้าน แก้ง ) consists of the whole tambon Ban Kaeng.
• That Thong (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล ธาตุทอง ) consists of the whole Tambon That Thong.
• Ban Phet Phu Khiao (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล บ้าน เพชร ภูเขียว ) consists of parts of the Tambon Ban Phet.
• Phu Khiao (Thai: เทศบาล ตำบล ภูเขียว ) consists of parts of the Tambon Phak Pang.
