The county's main water resource is the Pa-Sak River .

history

For military tactical reasons, King Maha Chakkraphat ordered in 1549 that some areas of the Mueang Lopburi and Nakhon Nayok be separated to create Mueang Saraburi. Its administrative seat was initially in today's Tambon Mueang Kao, Amphoe Sao Hai, and not in today's Amphoe Mueang Saraburi.

As a result of taking Chiang Saens by Thai troops in 1804 thousands were of Tai Yuan relocated here from there. Their descendants can be traced to this day. There is even an enclave with a Yuan majority in the actual settlement area of the Central Thai (Siamese). The local population still maintains close ties to northern Thailand. For example, craftsmen from Ban Tong ( Lamphun Province ) were commissioned to erect yuan-style religious buildings here.

In 1896 the administration of the Mueang Saraburi was officially transferred to Tambon Pak Phriao, Amphoe Mueang Saraburi . At the same time, the district administration was moved from Sao Hai to Tambon Suan Dokmai, and three years later again to Tambon Sao Hai near the Chao Pho Shrine. In 1924 the owner of the Sao Hai market donated 12,800 m² of land about 500 m from the old location so that the new administrative building for the district and a police station could be built there.

The name of Sao Hai County literally means Weeping Pillar , referring to a local legend. At the time when the city pillar of Bangkok was being erected, the king asked for the most beautiful pillar in the whole country to put in the capital. The Saraburi pillar was almost perfect, but it did not reach the capital until the main pillar had been chosen, so it could only be of secondary importance. This made the column very sad and it swam across the Chao Phraya and Pa-Sak rivers back to Saraburi, where it sank in the river. Residents of a nearby village heard the weeping of the column, hid it and erected it in their village, which gave the whole district its name. Today the pillar is in the Chao Mae Takhian Tong Shrine inside the Wat Sung temple near the Sao Hai district administration building.

various

Luis Weiler was called up in 1893 as a section engineer for the expansion of the northeast line of the Thai Railway , the so-called "Korat Railway " to Siam . Weiler calls the route from Ayutthaya via Saraburi to Kaeng Khoi and Hinlap, and on to Korat ( Nakhon Ratchasima ), the “ Korat Railway” . He reached his first place of work in Saraburi by boat across the Pa-Sak River. On the way there he passed Sao Hai, which he noted in his diary:

“We passed Saraburi around four o'clock. ... From here on the water became shallower. A little later we ran aground in front of a wat. I decided to rest here for the night. The wat was called Wat Tschung. … The next morning, March 4th, 1893 at 5 o'clock, I got up and the journey continued. After half an hour we passed the Sauhai village. The river is quite narrow here and blocked by floating houses, so that we had to drive past the houses and see their deepest secrets. The houses are mostly open after the current. "
