Altenhof Office

The Altenhof office was a territorial administrative unit of the spiritual principality of Fulda .

The Altenhof district comprised the princely suburbs of the residence. It divided into upper, middle and lower parish. The name was derived from the Fronhofsverband of the same name. The Altenhof was originally subordinate to the abbot and was the seat of his administration. At the head of the office stood the mayor and the gatekeeper. The second office was hereditary in the Jarmann family. In 1733 the dean of the Fulda monastery acquired the Altenhof with high and low jurisdiction.

After the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss 1803, the 1802 secularized Hochstift Fulda was dissolved and the core of Nassau-Orange-Fulda . The Altenhof office was dissolved and added to the Fulda vice cathedral office. The seat of the office was south of the Fulda Cathedral in the rear castle.
