Oberamt Burghaun

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Oberamt Burghaun was a judicial and administrative unit of the clerical principality of Fulda and the principality of Nassau-Oranien-Fulda as well as in the Electorate of Hesse .

history

Fulda

The Burghaun Office and the neighboring Hauneck Office were originally owned by von Haune . Whether the property was an allod or a Fulda fief was a matter of dispute . Fulda saw the area to the left of the Haune as a property of Fulda since 801. Only in the west of the area was Fulda able to enforce its property rights, in the east the jurisdiction lay with those of Haune. In 1409 the Landgraviate of Hesse acquired the Hauneck castle and office. The Burghaun office was also in Hesse's area of interest. In 1422 Abbot Johann redeemed a pledge of half of the Burghaun office and exercised the bailiwick rights himself. In 1499 Giso, Heinrich, Jörge and Wilhelm von Haune gave the Landgrave of Hesse the castle and office of Hune as a fief. In the following decades, this led to extensive conflicts between Hesse and Fulda, which led to a settlement in 1539, in which Hesse waived its claims. In 1500 Fulda acquired another share in the office of Jörge von Haune. In 1627 the male line of von Haune died out and Fulda wanted to move in as a settled fiefdom. Volpert Daniel Schenck zu Schweinsberg , who was married to a daughter Ludwig von Haunes, successfully raised claims to the inheritance. In 1680 and 1692 Fulda acquired the missing shares in the office and was thus the sole sovereign.

In the 18th century the office was called Oberamt Burghaun. Formally, a noble bailiff was at its head. However, this office was sinecure at the end of the HRR . In fact, the chief official was actually the bailiff.

Principality of Nassau-Orange-Fulda

The Principality of Nassau-Oranien-Fulda came into being on the basis of the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss 1803. With regard to jurisdiction and administration, the rulers' ordinance on January 8, 1803 reorganized the existing offices. The Oberamt Burghaun remained unchanged. The office was now called an Office III. Class.

Grand Duchy of Frankfurt

In 1806 the Principality of Nassau-Orange-Fulda was occupied by the French and in 1810 it became part of the Grand Duchy of Frankfurt . In the French era , the office belonged to the department of Fulda as a district fairy Burghaun , nothing changed in the structure (see court organization in the Grand Duchy of Frankfurt ). In particular, the separation of the judiciary from the administration was not introduced.

Kurhessen

According to the final act of the Congress of Vienna on July 9, 1815, the Oberamt Burghaun passed to the Kingdom of Prussia . This transferred the office on October 16, 1815 to the Electorate of Hesse . In 1816 the Burghaun office was expanded slightly. It received a village from the Hünfeld office and the villages of the Wehrda district. It now consisted of Burghaun, Großenmoor, Gruben, Hechelmannskirchen, Herberts, Hünhan, Klausmarbach, Kleinmoor, Langenschwarz, Mahlerts, Michelsrombach, Oberfeld, Oberombach, Rhina, Rothenkirchen, Rudolphshan, Schletzenrod, Schotzau, Steinbach, Wehrda and Wetzlos. In 1822, jurisdiction was separated from administration in Kurhessen. The administrative functions were transferred to the Fulda district , the judicial function to the Burghaun judicial office .
