The Meyenburg office is an office established in 1992 in the Prignitz district of the state of Brandenburg , in which six municipalities in the then Pritzwalk district were initially combined to form an administrative association. In the course of the dissolution of the Pritzwalk-Land office, further communities were assigned to the Meyenburg office. On the other hand, the number of municipalities decreased due to municipal mergers and integrations, so that the Meyenburg office currently has five municipalities belonging to the office.

Geographical location

The Meyenburg office is located in the north of the Prignitz district. In the west it borders on the Putlitz-Berge office , in the northwest and north on the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania , in the east on the city of Wittstock / Dosse and the municipality of Heiligengrabe and in the south on the city of Pritzwalk .

Municipalities and districts

The Meyenburg office is currently divided into five municipalities:

  • Meyenburg (city) with Bergsoll, Buddenhagen, Griffenhagen, Schabernack, Schmolde, Penzlin and Penzlin Süd

history

The Minister of the Interior of the State of Brandenburg approved the creation of the Meyenburg Office on August 26, 1992. August 28, 1992 was set as the date for the establishment of the office. The approval was initially limited to August 28, 1994. The limitation was lifted by the Ministry of the Interior with effect from July 11, 1994. The city of Meyenburg was designated as the official seat. At the time the office was formed, the following communities from the then Pritzwalk district were assigned:

  1. Frehne
  2. Jännersdorf
  3. Krempendorf
  4. Schmolde
  5. Stepenitz
  6. City of Meyenburg

The community Schmolde was incorporated into the city of Meyenburg on December 31, 2001. Also on December 31, 2001, the communities of Frehne, Jännersdorf, Krempendorf and Stepenitz merged to form the new community of Marienfließ.

In the course of the dissolution of the Pritzwalk-Land office on December 31, 2002, the municipalities of Gerdshagen , Halenbeck-Rohlsdorf and Kümmernitztal were assigned to the Meyenburg office on July 1, 2002.

Population development

When the office was formed in 1992, it had 3938 residents. The population decreased to 3679 inhabitants by 2001. With the takeover of the municipalities of Gerdshagen, Halenbeck-Rohlsdorf and Küßenitztal from the dissolved Pritzwalk-Land office , the number of inhabitants rose to 5373 inhabitants in 2002. As a result, the number of inhabitants continued to decline and in 2006 fell to below 5000 inhabitants (limit for an office after of the official regulations of the state of Brandenburg).
