history

Bayreuth Palace of Justice
Pegnitz branch

In 1812 Bayreuth established its own regional court in Bayreuth (older order) , and since 1857 there was also a district court . In 1879 the former Bavarian regional court of the older order was converted into the district court of Bayreuth in accordance with the Reich's uniform court constitution law of 1877, and the district court became the new regional court of Bayreuth .

In the Palace of Justice , the main seat of the court, parts of the district court, the regional court and the public prosecutor's office are housed. The building was built between 1901 and 1904 and was used as the “central justice building”. It survived both world wars almost unscathed and was also converted into a hospital . After the Second World War , the Palace of Justice was briefly the seat of the US headquarters.

The architectural style of the building is difficult to define, as it contains baroque elements and features of Art Nouveau . Particularly noteworthy is the jury court room on the second floor, which is decorated with textile bracing and wood paneling. The ceiling is provided with a glass mosaic field and stucco . The banister of the main staircase is made of marble .

The district court employs a total of 134 people , including 20 judges .
