The An Sporran Darts Club is an Austrian steel darts club . It is the second oldest darts club in the country and the oldest still in existence in the federal capital Vienna . An Sporran is a three-time winner of the Austrian Steeldarts Club Championship and thus the Austrian record champion.

founding

The association was founded in 1984 under the leadership of the 1st chairman Wilfried Adlbrecht in the eponymous "An Sporran Pub". The sporran is an accessory (the bum bag) of the traditional kilt and an associated Gaelic article. To this day, some club members wear a kilt at important tournaments.

Club structure

At Sporran there is a member association, the chairman and all other organizational representatives ( secretary , treasurer and their deputies ) are elected by the members for a period of one year at the general assembly, with each association member being entitled to vote.

An Sporran is a non-profit association whose budget consists primarily of membership fees and voluntary donations. The association is also supported by the ASVÖ . The defined purpose of the association is to practice and promote darts, which is primarily done through the participation of the club in the competitions of the WDV or ÖDV. An Sporran also often sends players to international tournaments. They organize the weekly Mickey Mouse tournament series, their own club championship (annually), benefit tournaments for the benefit of the child protection center "Die Möwe" and most importantly, the big An Sporran Open. Furthermore, the association tries to spread the sport of darts through public relations, which is done through publications as well as presentations at game festivals and kirtagen .

After the club was founded in the An Sporran Pub, the club went through a few difficult years with several changes of location before it finally found its home for a long time in the former Cafe Floh in Nestroygasse. Since the 2001/02 season the club has had its home in the Crown & Sword in Obere Augartenstrasse in Vienna's 2nd district.

Teams

DC An Sporran currently has eight teams in the regional league of the Vienna Darts Association (WDV), two of which are in the 1st division of the top twelve teams in Vienna in the 2019/20 season. At Sporran Open

The most important event that the An Sporran Darts Club organizes itself is the annual An Sporran Open. Over the years it has grown into one of the largest and most prestigious steel darts tournaments in Austria. In the history of the event, over 2000 participants registered for this tournament, which was held in the years 2003-2006 under the name "Austrian An Sporran Open" as a world ranking tournament and thus represented the absolute highlight of the Austrian darts calendar.

After the ÖDV decided in 2007 to award Austria's WDF tournament to Carinthia in accordance with the rotation principle, the An Sporran Open was held without any ranking status this year. Since 2008 it has been an Austrian ranking tournament of category B.
It is currently held on a weekend in September with the double competitions (women and men) on Saturday and, most importantly, the individual competitions (women, men and youth) on Sunday.
