Andrea De Nicolao ( August 21, 1991 in Camposampiero , Veneto ) is an Italian basketball player . De Nicolao became vice-European champion with the Italian U20 junior selection in 2011 and, as a professional player, has so far only played for Italian club teams. Since the summer of 2014, De Nicolao has also played international matches for the Italian men's selection .

Career

In 2008, De Nicolao moved to the youth teams of the then top Italian club Benetton from Treviso , where Alessandro Gentile , who was a year younger, played. Together they took part in the Italian junior selection at the U20 European Championship 2011, in which the Italians had to admit defeat to hosts Spain in the final and won the silver medal. While Gentile left the club and moved to record champions Olimpia Armani Milan , De Nicolao returned to Treviso after being loaned to third division Pallacanestro Lago Maggiore from Castelletto sopra Ticino the previous season . While De Nicolao only made short appearances in the top division Lega Basket Serie A at Treviso in the 2009/10 season , he now received significantly more shares with an average of more than 15 minutes per game. At the end of the season, Benetton reached eleventh place in the table and missed entry into the play-offs for the championship. Subsequently, for economic reasons, the club did not get a new license and the professional team was canceled from the game.

After Benetton's license loss in 2012, De Nicolao left the club and switched to previous league competitor and veteran Cimberio from Varese , where he played with his U20 national team-mate Achille Polonara . In the 2012/13 season, Varese reached the final in the "Coppa Italia" cup competition, which was lost by just three points to series champion Montepaschi Siena , and improved from eighth place in the previous season to first place after the main round. In the play-off semi-final series for the championship it was against defending champion Siena, who lost in the seventh and decisive game. When the Americans Michael E. Green and Bryant Dunston had left the club for the following 2013/14 season, Varese missed the return to the play-offs in tenth place. After De Nicolao had already played in the All-Star Series A games in December 2012 and in spring 2014 in the jersey of the Italian men's national team, he was also called up for international matches for the senior national team in summer 2014.
