biography

Andreas Ebert was born in 1952 as the son of religious parents in East Berlin (group of artists around Bertolt Brecht ) and grew up in poor conditions in West Berlin after fleeing in 1953. His mother Renate geb. Apfelgrün (1925–1998) made her way as a vacuum cleaner representative. The father Oswald Ebert (1926–1968) was an unemployed painter and graphic artist and lived off the occasional sales of his pictures.

In 1959, Ebert and his older brother Mattias were sent to Sweden to relax for four months . The devotions and the good spirit of the Christian-run rest home made a strong impression on him. He was baptized when he was seven when his mother moved to Ansbach with his brother and himself . Through the children's church service, youth group and his boarding school from 1962 in Windsbach and as a singer in the Windsbach boys' choir , he developed the plan to become a pastor early on.

In 1969/70 he spent a year as an exchange student in Jackson, Michigan , USA. 1972 Abitur. He then studied Protestant theology in Neuendettelsau , Tübingen , Würzburg (with intensive participation in the life of the tea room community, an independent institution of the Protestant regional church), University of Heidelberg and again Neuendettelsau.

In March 1977 he went on a study trip to the "New Jerusalem" congregation in Cincinnati , USA, with Wernerüstenmacher and Andreas Richter . There he met the Franciscan Father Richard Rohr (then 33 years old) for the first time.

In autumn 1978 he started his vicariate in Würzburg (Gerbrunn-Sieboldshöhe). During a holiday in Norway with friends Knut Grønvik and Halvor Nordhaug, the child encouragement song was created, which Andreas Ebert submitted to the "Mastersinger Competition" of the German Evangelical Church Congress in Nuremberg in 1979 and won.

From 1980 he was appointed pastor for people's missionary services in Nuremberg in order to set up alternative missionary work in the city center of the St. Lorenz parish . There he founded the "Lorenzer Laden", a Christian tea room with a base community and a one-world shop.

In 1988 he took a leave of absence from church service for a sabbatical year, during which the book The Enneagram was written, as well as On a Treasure Hunt - 12 expeditions into the heart of Christianity . In 1990 Andreas Ebert was appointed deputy head of the community college of the United Evangelical Lutheran Church in Germany (VELKD) in Celle . In 1994, after conflicts with the church leadership of the VELKD, he took another leave of absence to live in the house community of Gries near Kronach in Franz Jalics' meditation center .

In 1996 he began his service as pastor at St. Lukas , Munich. There he helped to continue the alternative form of divine service Thomas Mass (developed in Helsinki) in the congregation . There he was also significantly involved in the homeless work (in the church cellar) and in the founding of the "Gay Biblical Circle Lukas" (SchwuBiLu). In 2004 he also took over half a project position at the evang.-luth. Regional church in Bavaria for the establishment of the "Spiritual Center St. Martin" in Munich's Glockenbachviertel . In 2011, the project became a full-time position, and Andreas Ebert took on the position of representative for meditation and spiritual practice in southern Bavaria in addition to the management of St. Martin. At the end of July 2017, Andreas Ebert retired as head of the Spiritual Center.

He is also internationally active as a speaker and course leader on the Enneagram (with Wolfgang Zink, Marion Meeresmacher and others, including in Norway, USA, Switzerland, Austria, Romania) and on Prayer of the Heart (Norway, Switzerland, summer 2012 to South Korea). He was one of the organizers of the 1st European Symposium on Prayer from the Heart in June 2011 in Flüeli-Ranft , Obwalden , Switzerland and the official spiritual guide of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bavaria.
