Andreas Neu , since 1796 Freiherr von Neu (born February 20, 1734 in Vienna , † December 21, 1803 in Burgstall ), was an imperial field marshal lieutenant .

Life

Military career

His military career began again at the Vienna Engineering School, where he excelled in mathematical sciences to such an extent that he was entrusted with a subordinate teaching position at the age of 19. In 1757 he was promoted to sub-lieutenant in the general quartermaster's staff and, as a result of continued special ability, was promoted to captain in 1759 . He then directed the mapping work in Bohemia , Moravia and Silesia . He was promoted to major in 1769. After that he was used for similar work in Upper Austria and, after his promotion to lieutenant in 1778, in the Innviertel , in Galicia , in Hungary and in Lower Austria . After his promotion to colonel in 1786, he was in charge of basic measurements in Hungary, Transylvania , Croatia and Slavonia . In 1788 he became chief of the general staff in the army corps in Croatia, took part in the Turkish war , especially the siege of Dubiza Berbir , and in 1789 advanced to major general .

New in 1790 was Vice Commander von Pless and, under Loudon, Chief of the General Staff in his army. In 1792 he moved to the Rhine Army in the same capacity. During the First Coalition War he was subordinate to Clerfayt and on his call became Reich Quartermaster General . From autumn 1794 he was governor of the imperial and main fortress Mainz and was able to distinguish himself again during the siege of Mainz . For this he was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Maria Theresa Order on November 11, 1795 . On January 4, 1796, he was raised to the status of imperial baron in Vienna with the address "Well-born" and on March 4, 1796, he was promoted to field marshal lieutenant. In 1800 he received his farewell and in 1801 retired to Upper Austria.

New had with his wife Franziska, née Hagl von Donnersfeld, the son Andreas (1787-1840), major general and brigadier of Laibach . He was married to Therese von Hannak-Tarnowska († 1856) and continued the tribe .
