Career
The defender was after his time in the US Junior League USHL in the squad of Minnesota State University, Mankato in the game operations of the NCAA , the American college sports organization. For the university, the right- shooter was on the ice in a total of 36 games in which he was able to score six points during the first season of his student days . In the following game year 2000/01 Hedlund was able to increase his yield to twelve points from 38 games. In his last year of college, the American rose again to 15 points in 37 missions.
In the subsequent NHL Entry Draft , the defender remained undrafted , but the Ottawa Senators took him under contract for the 2001/02 season . In the current year he was able to gain his first professional experience in the organization of the NHL team. Hedlund finished the season with the Senators ECHL farm team , the Trenton Titans . For this he played two games in the regular season, as well as another six playoff games . However, Hedlund remained without a point with six penalty minutes. The following season 2002/03 he started again with the Titans and brought it in 13 games on one goal and two assists.
In 2002 Andrew Hedlund was first used with the Binghamton Senators in the AHL and played here for the rest of the season. He scored one goal and seven assists in 59 games. In the following season , the defender was part of the permanent squad in Binghamton and completed a total of 80 season appearances. Also in the 2004/05 season he played again for Binghamton Senators, but could not build on the successful previous season. For the 2005/06 season , the American finally signed a contract with the Krefeld Penguins from the German Ice Hockey League .
For the 2006/07 season , Hedlund initially moved to league rivals DEG Metro Stars , but then returned to the Ottawa Senators in the National Hockey League in June . Again, the defender could not prevail there and was only used with the farm team Hershey Bears and the Binghamton Senators in the AHL, so that he signed a new two-year contract with the DEG Metro Stars for the 2007/08 season . In the 2009/10 season Hedlund played for Adler Mannheim. His contract, which originally ran for another year, was terminated after the season. In June 2010 it was announced that Hedlund will return to Düsseldorf. He signed a two-year contract.
After his contract expired, he accepted an offer from the then reigning Austrian champions EHC Linz in May 2012 and played a total of two seasons in the EBEL for the Black Wings . After the end of the 2013/14 season, he ended his career.
