Andrew "Mac" McPherson (* 28. April 1979 in Dauphin , Manitoba ) is a retired German - Canadian ice hockey player and ehemaliger- trainer who from May 2018 to July 2019 with the Fischtown Pinguins Bremerhaven was hired as an assistant coach.
Career
player
The 1.88 m tall and 88 kg attacker first played for several years in the junior league National Collegiate Athletic Association before he came to appearances in the East Coast Hockey League and the Central Hockey League in 2002/03 . He was drawn in the ninth round of the 1999 NHL Entry Draft in 261st place by the Pittsburgh Penguins .
From the 2003/04 season he became a regular player with the Roanoke Express team in the ECHL and in the following season with the Port Huron Beacons in the United Hockey League . In summer 2005 he moved to Europe, where he played for EV Landsberg 2000 . In the main round of the major league - 2005/06 season he was the bad boy with 180 penalty minutes in 32 games, including three game misconduct penalties. In these 32 games he scored 27 goals and 28 assists. In the championship round of the league season he came to 55 penalty minutes in 16 games, and he shot nine and prepared 13 goals. In the major league play-offs Mac was on the ice in all eight games - he scored three goals and one assist. Also in the 2006/07 season McPherson played for the EV Landsberg 2000 in the 2nd Bundesliga . He scored 21 goals and 41 assists in 51 games and was voted the best center of the season. After his engagement in Landsberg McPherson switched to the Straubing Tigers from the German Ice Hockey League . He played 53 games for Lower Bavaria in the 2007/08 season and achieved 17 points scorer. After a year in the top German division, the Canadian returned to the 2nd Bundesliga and joined SC Riessersee , for which he played until 2010. In the 2010/11 season he was under contract with the Hanover Indians and was one of the top scorers in the league.
In August 2011 Andrew McPherson received a trial contract with EHC Munich . In October 2011 he was signed by the second division club ESV Kaufbeuren . In May 2012 he became a German citizen.
Before the 2012/13 season he moved to the second division Fischtown Pinguins Bremerhaven . For the 2016/17 season Bremerhaven was accepted into the top German division, the DEL . During the 2016/17 season, McPherson received no more regular appearances and in January 2017 he decided to move to the Polish first division club KS Cracovia . With the Krakow team he won the Polish championship at the end of the season and then returned to Germany to look for a new club. In July 2017, McPherson was finally signed by the Bietigheim Steelers from the DEL2. With Bietigheim he won the championship title in the DEL2 in the 2017/18 season and then ended his playing career.
Trainer
At the beginning of May 2018, McPherson was hired as an assistant coach at the DEL Club Fischtown Pinguins.
