Career

Zapotoczny, who jumps for the club STS Krokiew Zakopane , started his international career in February 2007 in the FIS Cup jumping in his hometown Zakopane . In his second competition, he already landed within the points. In the summer of 2007 he was able to improve his performance further and for the first time jumped into the top ten in Szczyrk . After he continued to achieve consistent results, he received a starting place in the B-team in 2008 as part of the Ski Jumping Continental Cup . In his second competition, the Ski Jumping Continental Cup 2008/09 , he reached the points in Vikersund, Norway . In January, in Sapporo , he also made it to the top 10 in the Continental Cup for the first time.

At the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships in 2009 in Štrbské Pleso , he jumped to 31st place in the individual. Together with Maciej Kot , Jakub Kot and Grzegorz Miętus , however, he won the bronze medal in team competition on the Štrbské Pleso ski jumps one day later. After he jumped into the points in the Continental Cup again in Pragelato , he reached 85th place overall. In the summer of 2009, Zapotoczny switched between the Continental Cup and the FIS Cup and achieved good results in both series.

At the Polish Championships in Zakopane he reached sixth place in individual jumping on October 10, 2009. He started the 2009/10 ski jumping season shortly afterwards in the Alpine Cup before moving back to the FIS Cup in mid-January 2010. After only two competitions in Szczyrk, where he was sixth and fifth, he was given a starting place in the qualification for the first time in the ski jumping World Cup in Zakopane. After surviving this as 38th, he started in the World Cup for the first time on January 22nd, 2010. However, he only reached the penultimate place and was eliminated as 49th after the first round. Two weeks later he missed the qualification in Willingen , but competed with the team in the team competition and was tenth in the end. A few days later, Zapotoczny found himself in the B-squad and jumped again in the Continental Cup.

At the end of the 2009/10 season as well as in the summer of 2010 Zapotoczny had to fight with widely varying results. He clearly missed points in some jumping competitions, in others he achieved good placements among the top twenty. At the Polish Championships in 2010 in Wisła , he won the national championship title in the team competition with the team that also included Grzegorz Miętus , Maciej Kot and Kamil Stoch . After he was rarely successful until October, he took a short break from competition at the beginning of the 2010/11 season . It wasn't until January 2011 that he competed in the Continental Cup for the first time. He jumped into the points in the first competition in Sapporo and in both competitions in the Alpensia Jumping Park in Pyeongchang .

At the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships 2011 in Otepää , Estonia , he and the team narrowly missed the medal ranks in the team competition and ended up fourth. In the individual competition, Zapotoczny reached the 16th place. After he paused again in a row in the summer of 2011, he had to struggle with poor performances throughout the 2011/12 season and thus only achieved four points and 119th place in the overall standings. In summer 2012 Zapotoczny did not find his way back to his old achievements either.

In Wisła in July 2012 he got the chance to start in the Ski Jumping Grand Prix for the first time , but couldn't convince with 31st place. In the Continental Cup, too, Zapotoczny only achieved mediocre places and rarely won points. Only in Sapporo in January 2013 did he convince again with an 11th place. However, this was only due to the small starting field. After two good jumps in the FIS Cup in Zakopane, he finished the 2012/13 season with a 28th place and three points in Brotterode . In the end, he finished 81st in the overall ranking.
