Angus Strathie

Angus Strathie is an Australian costume designer who has won an Oscar for Best Costume Design , two AACTA Awards , the British Academy Film Award for Best Costume and a Golden Satellite Award , among others .

Life

Strathie began his career as a costume designer in the film industry in 1992 with the dance film Strictly Ballroom by Baz Luhrmann with Paul Mercurio , Tara Morice and Bill Hunter . For this debut work he won the British Academy Film Award in 1993 for the best costumes (BAFTA Film Award) as well as his first AACTA Award from the Australian Film Institute for best costume design, also known as AFI Award .

At the 2002 Academy Awards , he and Catherine Martin won the Oscar for best costume design for the musical film Moulin Rouge (2001), which was also directed by Baz Luhrmann with Nicole Kidman , Ewan McGregor and John Leguizamo . He and Catherine Martin also won the AACTA Award for Best Costume Design and the Golden Satellite Award for Best Costume. At the same time, both were nominated for the BAFTA Film Award, the Saturn Award for the best costume and the Phoenix Film Critics Society (PFCS Award) for the best costume design.

In 2003 he received a nomination for the AACTA Award for best costume design in the life story of the Australian swimming idol Tony Fingleton , filmed under the title Gegen den Strom (2003) , directed by Russell Mulcahy with Geoffrey Rush , Judy Davis and Jesse Spencer . He and Catherine Martin also received a 2003 Tony Award nomination for the best costumes in Giacomo Puccini's La Bohème on Broadway .

In 2008 he and Sandra J. Blackie received a Leo Award for the best costume design in a television series and the Award of Excellence at the Accolade Competition for costume design in the miniseries Tin Man - Fight for the Emerald of Light (2007) produced by RHI Entertainment with Zooey Deschanel , Neal McDonough and Alan Cumming . In addition, both were nominated in 2008 for an Emmy for Outstanding Costumes in the first episode entitled Night 1 .

In 2010 he was nominated for the Leo Award for Best Costume Design for the mini-series Alice (2009) with Caterina Scorsone , Andrew Lee Potts and Matt Frewer . He is currently working on equipment for television films such as Ragz and Big Time Movie , which are due to be broadcast in 2012.
