Anna Blos

Anna Berta Antonia Blos , b. Tomasczewska (* 4. August 1866 in Legnica ; † 27. April 1933 in Stuttgart ) was a German politician of the SPD , teacher , writer and women's rights activist .

Life and work

After attending the retirement and secondary girls 'school and the Princess-Wilhelm-Stifts teachers' seminar in Karlsruhe , Blos, who was Protestant , studied history , literature and languages at the Humboldt University in Berlin . Then she worked as a senior teacher. Anna Blos was a member of the local school council of Stuttgart and later became the first woman in the German Reich to be a local school councilor .

As a women's rights activist and staunch advocate of women's suffrage , Anna Blos was a manager in the Württemberg Association for Women 's Suffrage . She founded the Association of Stuttgart Housewives in Stuttgart and was its chairman . She has also worked in various non-profit organizations.

Anna Blos had been married to Wilhelm Blos (1849–1927), who later became President of the State of Württemberg , from 1905 . From December 21 to 27, 1931, the old castle in Stuttgart burned down , and since 1922 it has also housed the couple's pensioner apartment. The widow Anna Blos not only lost her apartment, but also the very extensive library that she had built together during her husband's lifetime .

Anna Blos died in Stuttgart at the age of 66 and found her final resting place there in the Prague cemetery .

Political party

Despite their middle-class background, her father was Surgeon First Class, Blos joined the SPD and became a member of the executive committee of the party Württemberg.

MPs

In 1919, Anna Blos was the only female member of the Württemberg SPD to be elected to the Weimar National Assembly when it was elected to the German National Assembly. She was one of 37 women among the 423 MPs.
