Anne of Green Gables (original title: Anne of Green Gables ) is a Canadian television film from 2016. The literary film adaptation is an adaptation of the novel of the same name by Lucy Maud Montgomery , the first edition of which was published in 1908. In the title role of Anne Shirley is Ella Ballentine see the other film stars Martin Sheen and Sara Botsford .

The farmers Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert adopt an orphan who is supposed to help the older siblings work on the ailing farm Green Gables . Instead of the expected boy, they are assigned the girl Anne Shirley. While Matthew is immediately taken with the imaginative and open-minded Anne, Marilla is skeptical whether Anne can be of any use to the farm and initially reacts brusquely to the girl's presence. She wants to send Anne back to the orphanage first, but Anne can convince her of her skills and stay on the farm.

Production and publication

The television film was initially announced in 2013 as a thirteen-part television series, which was then not realized. The filming of the television film took place in 2015 in Milton , Ontario and on Prince Edward Island .

The film premiered on February 15, 2016 on Canadian television channel YTV . He was first seen on German television on May 16, 2016 on Das Erste .

Kate Macdonald Butler, a granddaughter of Lucy Maud Montgomery, was one of the film's executive producers .

With Anne of Green Gables: The Good Stars and Anne of Green Gables: Fire & Dew , two sequels were created in 2016 and 2017. In Germany, Das Erste broadcast all three parts of the Christmas 2017 film series as a miniseries under the title Anne on Green Gables .
