Anneliese Abarth

Anneliese Abarth (* 1939 ) is an Austrian producer of documentaries about international automobile racing , interpreter , ambassador of the Mille Miglia and founder and president of the Carlo Abarth Foundation .

Life

Abarth grew up with five siblings in Vöcklabruck in Upper Austria . Financially, she was able to stand on her own two feet early on. Abarth initially worked as a model . After her divorce from her first husband, with whom she lived in Tanzania , she returned to her homeland in Austria.

She met the Italian motorcycle racer and entrepreneur Carlo Abarth in 1964 at the Hotel Sacher in Vienna . Then Carlo Abarth separated from his second wife. Anneliese Abarth shared the hobby of driving rallies with her future husband . She finally married Abarth in September 1979, became his third wife and lived with him until his death in late October of the same year. After the death of her husband, she lived in Monte Carlo , where she made sports films and dedicated herself to event management . Abarth produced documentary reports on the international motorsport scene. Together with the former Italian racing driver and motorsport manager Daniele Audetto , she founded the film company FilmGo in Milan , which specializes in racing films . This succeeded u. a. a cooperation with Formula 1 and the America's Cup . She produced the multi-part documentary series Portrait of a Champion for the German-speaking television market on behalf of Telepool and Bayerischer Rundfunk . a. the then rally champions Sandro Munari , Walter Röhrl , Björn Waldegård , Hannu Mikkola , Shekhar Mehta and Michèle Mouton stood in front of their cameras.

After a dispute between Jean-Marie Balestre , President of the then World Motorsport Federation, FISA , and Michel Boeri , Chairman of the Automobile Club de Monaco , the Monaco Grand Prix was only a race in the then upcoming Formula 1 season threatened to be carried out without a World Championship title, Anneliese Abarth u. a. Winning Stig Blomqvist , Michèle Mouton , Hannu Mikkola , Ari Vatanen and Walter Röhrl for their "Initiative for the Preservation of the Monte". The 1985 Monaco Grand Prix ultimately took place as a regular race as part of the 1985 Formula 1 season .

Anneliese Abarth later lived in Florida . Together with the Italian pleasure boat pilot Tullio Abbate , she organized a race as part of the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este on Lake Como , in which Formula 1 pilots such as Gilles Villeneuve and Alain Prost took part.

In order to preserve the myth of her husband, she founded the Carlo Abarth Foundation, which she chairs as president. Abarth regularly organizes classic car events on behalf of the Foundation . In addition, in 2009 she wrote a biographical work from the private life of Carlo Abarth from the perspective of a racing driver's wife and provided insights into his life with over 140 pictures from the private archive.

Anneliese Abarth was an ambassador for the Mille Miglia in 2012 . Today she lives in Kitzbühel .

Awards

Anneliese Abarth was honored with awards at various racing events for her long-term commitment in the classic car sector as well as in automobile and racing. Of particular note is the Daniel Weber Memorial Award, which she received in 1993 in Monterey, California at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance , as did the Italian body designer Sergio Pininfarina . Abarth was the first woman to be honored with this award.
