Annibale de Gasparis (also de Gasperis ; born November 9, 1819 in Bugnara near Sulmona , † March 21, 1892 in Naples ) was an Italian astronomer .

After attending the seminars in Sulmona and Chieti , he went to Naples in 1838 to study at an engineering school. From 1840 he was astronomo alunno at the observatory of Capodimonte. His first mathematical publication appeared in 1845, and the University of Naples awarded him an honorary doctorate ( laurea ad honorem ) in 1846 for his treatise on the orbit of the asteroid Vesta . From 1860 until his retirement in 1889 he was a full professor of astronomy, geodesy and mathematical geography at the University of Naples . From 1864 to 1889 De Gasparis was director of the Capodimonte observatory in Naples , where he was one of the leading astronomers from 1855. He discovered nine asteroids (see list of asteroids ).

In 1851 he was awarded the gold medal of the Royal Astronomical Society . In 1861 he was appointed Senator of the Kingdom . Since 1858 he was a corresponding member of the Accademia dei Lincei , in 1875 he became a full member. From 1849 he belonged to the Accademia Pontaniana in Naples. He was also awarded the Order of the Crown of Italy (2 levels), the Order of St. Mauritius and Lazarus (2 levels), the Order of Civil Merit of Savoy and the Order of the Red Eagle of Prussia and the Brazilian Order of the Rose .

In his memory, the 30-kilometer lunar crater de Gasparis , after which the lunar groove system of the Rimae de Gasparis , and the asteroid (4279) De Gasparis were named.
