Annukka Mallat lives in Lahti and trains in Tampere . The sports teacher began biathlon in 1985. She took part in her first races in the World Cup in 1993 in Kontiolahti . In the individual she was 38th and 35th in the sprint. It took two years before she was used again in the World Cup in Lahti and won her first World Cup points as 24th of the individual. At the start of the 1995/96 season , she just missed a top ten placement in an individual in Östersund as eleventh. She achieved that later in the season as ninth of an individual in Osrblie . Only a little later she also took part in world championships for the first time in Ruhpolding . In the singles she ran to 49th place, was 25th of the sprint and with Sanna-Leena Perunka , Mari Lampinen and Eija Salonen as the last runner of the season eight. A year later , the Finn in Osrblie was 25th in the individual, 15th in the sprint, 18th in the pursuit and with Katja Holanti , Lampinen and Tiina Mikkola relay tenth. Shortly after the World Cup, Mallat came in the pre-Olympic competitions in Nozawa Onsen as fifth of an individual to her best individual World Cup result.

In the Olympic season , the Finn was not active at the highest level. The most important event of the season was the 1996 European Biathlon Championships in Minsk , where she won the bronze medal in the relay race with Satu Pöntiö and Anna-Liisa Rasi . In 1999 she continued her career in the World Cup. The first major event at the highest level after the weaker year 1998 was the 1999 World Championships in Kontiolahti, where she came in sixth with Holanti, Outi Kettunen and Salonen. In the individual, which was moved to the Holmenkollen in Oslo due to bad weather conditions , Mallat was 21st. Between the two World Cup appearances, she was third in a relay race in Lake Placid and thus achieved her only podium finish in the World Cup. The last time the Finn took part in a world championship in 2000 in Oslo. With 36th place in the individual, 28th in the sprint and 22nd in the pursuit, she again achieved good, if not outstanding, results. The last race was a World Cup in her home town of Lahti, where she was 63rd of the individual.
