Schulz und Schulz Architects is an architectural office in Leipzig run by the German architects Ansgar and Benedikt Schulz .

Life

Ansgar Schulz (born March 18, 1966 in Witten ) studied architecture from 1985 to 1992 at RWTH Aachen University and the Polytechnic University of Madrid . He has been a member of the Saxony Chamber of Architects since 1994 . In 2002 he became a member of the Association of German Architects , of which he was a member of the Saxony state board from 2004 to 2009. He was appointed to the Deutsche Werkbund Berlin DWB in 2015; in the convention of the Federal Foundation for Building Culture in 2010, 2016, 2018 and 2020. Since 2016 he has been a member of the scientific advisory board of the German Institute for Urban Architecture.

Benedikt Schulz (born December 27, 1968 in Witten) studied architecture from 1988 to 1994 at the RWTH Aachen University and the Universidad Católica de Asunción in Paraguay . From 1995 to 1996 he was a research assistant at RWTH Aachen University. Benedikt Schulz has been a member of the Saxony Chamber of Architects since 1996. He was appointed to the Association of German Architects in 2002 and to the Saxon Academy of the Arts in 2010 , and to the Deutsche Werkbund Berlin DWB in 2015 . Since 2016 he has also been a member of the scientific advisory board of the German Institute for Urban Architecture.

Ansgar and Benedikt Schulz taught at the Technical University of Karlsruhe from 2002 to 2004 . From 2010 to 2018 they researched and taught as professors at the Technical University of Dortmund, where they jointly headed the Chair of Building Construction at the Faculty of Architecture and Civil Engineering. Since 2018 they have been professors for design and construction at the architecture faculty of the Technical University of Dresden .

The brothers Ansgar and Benedikt Schulz founded the Schulz und Schulz Architekten GmbH office in 1992. Inspired by the work on the implementation competition for the redesign of Leipzig Central Station - for which Ansgar and Benedikt Schulz received 2nd prize in 1994 - the architects in Leipzig decided to go with it work. The focus of the work is on public buildings in the field of education, research and culture, for which they have achieved international recognition and have received numerous awards. a. with the European Balthasar Neumann Prize and the International Prize for Sacred Architecture. The provost church of St. Trinitatis , which they designed , was named "Religious Building of the Year" at the World Architecture Festival WAF 2016. As an honorary award for their overall architectural work and for their services to building culture, they received the Great DAI Prize for Building Culture in 2018. The brothers Ansgar and Benedikt Schulz are regular jury members for architectural competitions, planning reports and architecture prizes. They are often invited to guest reviews and lectures at colleges, universities and congresses. Ansgar and Benedikt Schulz were appointed to the design advisory board from various cities. There they advise the respective committees as experts on questions of urban design and the cityscape. The office employs 35 people.

Current projects include a. the new construction of a primary school with a school sports hall in Leipzig and a primary school with a sports hall and swimming pool in Munich, the reorganization of the club premises of FC Schalke 04 and the new construction of the German Embassy in Vienna.
