Anton Forsberg (born November 27, 1992 in Härnösand ) is a Swedish ice hockey goalkeeper who has been under contract with the Carolina Hurricanes from the National Hockey League since June 2019 and also plays for their farm team , the Charlotte Checkers , in the American Hockey League .

Career

Anton Forsberg (2013)

Anton Forsberg began his career as an ice hockey player in his hometown in the youth department of AIK Härnösand , where he was active until 2008. In the 2007/08 season he also made his debut for the club's first team in the third-rate Division 1 . For the following season, the goalkeeper moved to the youth department of MODO Hockey , for whose U18 and U20 juniors he stood between the posts for the following four years. In the 2010/11 season he also ran a second time for his former club AIK Härnösand in Division 1.

In the 2011 NHL Entry Draft Forsberg was a total of 188 players from in the seventh round Columbus Blue Jackets selected, but initially remained still at MODO Hockey, for the first team he gained during the 2011/12 season on his debut in the Elitserien , the highest Swedish league, came.

At the end of the 2013/14 season Forsberg moved to North America, where he was initially used for the Springfield Falcons in the American Hockey League (AHL). In the following seasons 2014/15 and 2015/16 he came to a few NHL appearances for the Blue Jackets and played mainly for their AHL farm teams , where he won the Calder Cup with the Lake Erie Monsters in 2016 . In the playoffs he was the goalkeeper with the highest catch rate (94.9%), the lowest goals against goals (1.34) and the most shutouts (2).

After three years in the organization of the Blue Jackets, Forsberg was handed over to the Chicago Blackhawks in June 2017, along with Brandon Saad and a five-round vote for the NHL Entry Draft , who in return received Artemi Panarin , Tyler Motte and a six- round vote for the NHL Entry Draft 2017 sent to Columbus. He lost the position of backup behind Corey Crawford in the 2018/19 season to Cam Ward , so he was sent to the Rockford IceHogs in the AHL. The Swede spent the entire final year of his existing contract with the organization there. In June 2019 he was finally transferred to the Carolina Hurricanes with his compatriot Gustav Forsling . In return, Chicago received Calvin de Haan and Aleksi Saarela .

International

For Sweden , Forsberg took part in the U20 World Junior Championship in 2012 . In the course of the tournament he came as a substitute goalkeeper for Johan Gustafsson to two missions, in which he was able to convince with an average goal against 0.99 per game and a catch rate of 93.3 percent. With his team he finally won the gold medal.
