Antoni Peña

Antoni Peña ( Catalan Antoni Peña Picó , Spanish Antonio Peña Pico ; born August 26, 1970 in Felanitx ) is a former Spanish long-distance runner who had his greatest successes in the marathon .

Life

After finishing thirteenth at the World Half Marathon Championships in 1992 , he won the full-distance San Sebastian Marathon in 2:11:35 h on his debut shortly thereafter . In the following year he came in the same place held IAAF World Cup marathon on 19th place and in the marathon of the European Athletics Championships in Helsinki in 1994 he finished 32nd place.

In 1997 he became Spanish marathon champion in Sama ( Langreo ) in 2:10:49 h and in the following year he was sixth in the marathon at the European Championships in Budapest . In 1999 he won the Calvià Marathon .

In fifth place in the Rotterdam Marathon 2000, he fell below the 2:10 hour mark for the first time with 2:08:59 h. In the same year he improved as second in the Berlin Marathon to 2:07:47 h.

In 2001 he set the current course record at 2:07:34 h in the Biwa Lake Marathon . It was the sixth fastest time of the year. In the Marathon of the World Athletics Championships in Edmonton , he came in 24th place. The following year he was fourth in the Amsterdam Marathon and in 2003 he was second on Lake Biwa and fourth in the Fukuoka Marathon .

At the 2004 Olympic Games marathon in Athens, he finished 18th in 2:16:38 h.

In 2000, 2001 and 2005 he was national champion in the half marathon .

The athlete nicknamed “Toni” is 1.75 m tall and weighs 60 kg. He was trained by Rafael Sánchez. He currently lives in Portocolom on his home island Mallorca .
