history

The Apostolic Vicariate Esmeraldas was on December 14, 1945 by Pope Pius XII. Erected from the cession of the Diocese of Portoviejo as the Apostolic Prefecture of Esmeraldas . On November 14, 1957, the Apostolic Prefecture Esmeraldas was elevated to the Apostolic Vicariate.
