April Ferry (born April 31, 1932 in North Carolina as April Cecilia Gaskins ) is an American costume designer and actress who won the Primetime Emmy and was nominated for an Oscar for best costume design . In 2014 she was recognized by the Costume Designers Guild for her life's work.

Life

April Ferry began training as a dancer before becoming a costume designer in 1968. The trigger for this was the separation from her long-term partner after she was hired by a friend who was a costume designer at the Dean Martin Show while looking for a job . She learned from Robert Fletcher in the late 1970s and began working in film when she took over the management of the costumes for the production of the comedy Wealth Is No Shame . In 1983 the film The Great Frustration followed , in which she took over the management of the costumes for the first time, which was a breakthrough for her. In addition to various other film productions in the early 1980s, including Mike's Mörder , in which she also took a role as an actress, she was responsible for the costumes Cher during the filming of The Mask in 1985 . She continued to work on films such as Chucky - The Killer Doll , where she found working on the horror film "magical" after initial skepticism, and the animal feature film Free Willy - Call of Freedom , before working as a costume designer on Maverick - The Colt in 1994 Belt, an ace up your sleeve . For this she was nominated for the Oscar for best costume design , but could not prevail against Lizzy Gardiner and Tim Chappel , who received the prize for Priscilla - Queen of the Desert . For the television series Rome , on which she worked as a costume designer from 2005 to 2007, she received both the Primetime Emmy and twice the CDG Award for the best costume design in a television series. In 2008 she worked on the film Edge of Love - What remains of love , which received the BAFTA Award for its costume design . After Surrogates , My Big Fat Greek Summer and The Box in 2009, Ferry worked as a costume designer on the film Elysium , a RoboCop remake and in 2015 on Jurassic World in the following years . She then worked for several series productions and, after Extant, most recently designed several episodes of the television series Game of Thrones , for which she and Michele Clapton received an award from the Costume Designers Guild.

April Ferry has several children and lives in Rome .
