Ardeşen ( Laz Art'aşeni) is a Turkish coastal town on the Black Sea and the main town of the district of the same name ( İlçe ) in the province of Rize . The population consists of many ethnic minorities, such as B. the Lasen , Pontos Greeks and Hemşinli .

The district borders on Fındıklı County in the northeast , Çamlıhemşin County in the southwest and Pazar County in the west . The province of Artvin borders in the southeast and the Black Sea forms the natural border in the north. The third most populous district has a higher population density than the provincial average (109.3 - 90.9 inhabitants per km²).

The district was formed on March 1, 1953 and, in addition to the district town, consists of another municipality ( Belediye ): Tunca (2,528 inhabitants) and 40 villages ( Köy ) with an average of 328 inhabitants. The population numbers range from 984 ( Ortaalan ) down to 20 ( Arıcılar ). The village Işıklı (2017:. 1.1018 inhabitants) was in 2018 in two Mahalle (I and Konaktepe) divided and incorporated the town of Ardeşen.

The river Fırtına Deresi, which flows from the eastern Pontic Mountains to the south, flows into the Black Sea on the western outskirts of Ardeşen.
