Kalkandere (formerly: Karadere ) is a Turkish city ​​and capital of the district of the same name ( İlçe ) in the province of Rize . The city is located about 12 km southwest of the provincial capital Rize and was elevated to a municipality ( Belediye ) in 1953 .

The district of Kalkandere is located in the west of the province of Rize and borders in the north and east on the central district (Merkez) Rize, in the south on the district İkizdere and in the west on the district of ( Trabzon province ). The circle was formed in 1959. Its population density is 156.7 inhabitants per km² above that of the province.

In addition to the district town (sixth largest city in the province), it consists of 22 villages ( Köy ) with an average of 396 inhabitants. The scale of the population ranges from 1,214 ( Ormanlı ) down to 83 ( Geçitli ), seven villages have more inhabitants than the average (396).
