Çamlıhemşin ( Laz ვიჯა / Vica or ვიჯე / Vice , Georgian ვიჯა Vija ) is a Turkish city and a district in the province of Rize . The city is located about 40 km east of the provincial capital Rize . According to the city seal, the place was raised to a municipality ( Belediye ) in 1955 .
The Çamlıhemşin area was originally called Vicealtı. In 1953 it was formed as Bucak Çamlica in the new Ardeşen district. On April 1, 1960 this Bucak became independent as a district ( İlçe ) under its current name Çamlıhemşin. At that time, today's central village consisted of a single building.
The district of Çamlıhemşin borders in the northwest with the district Pazar , in the northeast with the district Ardeşen , in the east with the province Artvin , in the southeast with the province Erzurum , in the southwest with the district İkizdere and in the west with the districts Çayeli and Hemşin . In addition to the district town, the district consists of 24 villages ( Köy ) with an average of 261 residents. Dikkaya (958), Çayırdüzü (936) and Topluca (911 inh .) Are the largest villages, Yazlık is the smallest village in the province with 15 inhabitants. The population density is very low and amounts to a tenth of the provincial value (of 90.9 inhabitants per km²).
A better known tourist spot in the district is the Yayla settlement Ayder with its thermal spring.
