Ariel, the Mermaid (Original title: The Little Mermaid ) is an American animated series by the Walt Disney Company from 1992 to 1994. The series is based on the 1989 Disney film Ariel, the Mermaid .

Arielle, the little mermaid, is the youngest and most adventurous daughter of the sea king Triton. That causes a lot of trouble especially for Ariel's friend and companion, the crab Sebastian, because Sebastian is court marshal and has the task of taking care of Arielle. Dangers lurk from dangerous, large fish, the sea witch Ursula or even the world of humans outside the sea. Arielle is particularly interested in these.

There were 31 episodes produced in three seasons, which was broadcast in the United States from September 11, 1992 to November 26, 1994 by the broadcaster CBS and Disney-owned channels. The first season includes episodes one through 14; the second shows episodes 15 to 23 and the last season shows episodes 24 to 31.
The series has been translated into French, Spanish, Polish and Portuguese, among others.
In Germany, the series ran for the first time from January 1, 1994 as part of the Disney Club on ARD . In addition to broadcasts on Disney Channel , Disney Junior and Toon Disney , Arielle, the mermaid was also shown on RTL , Super RTL and Kabel eins . In Austria, the channel ORF eins also broadcasts the series.
Parallel to the second season, CBS showed the 13-part cartoon series Marsupilami about the cartoon character of the same name . As part of this series, the character Sebastian got a total of eight short films of his own. In Germany, Marsupilami was shown for the first time by RTL from July 1 to September 23, 1995 and has only been repeated once so far.
