Armin Schuster (born May 20, 1961 in Andernach ) is a German politician ( CDU ). He has been a member of the German Bundestag since 2009 .

Study and job

From 1980 to 1983, Armin Schuster attended the Federal University of Applied Sciences for Public Administration in Cologne and Lübeck . From 1983 to 1986 he worked for the Federal Border Police in Braunschweig . From 1986 to 1992 he studied at the University of Hagen economics and subsequently earned at the Police University in Münster the career qualification for the senior civil service . At the same time he worked for the Federal Ministry of the Interior between 1985 and 1989 . After various professional positions, he was a lecturer at the Federal University of Applied Sciences for Public Administration and head of quality management in Lübeck from 1999 to 2002 . Subsequently he was deputy head of the Federal Police Office in Frankfurt (Oder) . From 2004 to 2009, Schuster then headed the Federal Police Office in Weil am Rhein as Police Director .

Political party

Schuster has been a member of the CDU since 1987, was deputy from October 2009 to 2012 and chairman of the Lörrach CDU district association from 2012 to February 2018 .

During the refugee crisis in autumn 2015, Armin Schuster became one of the most important CDU internal critics of Chancellor Angela Merkel.

This internal party opposition to the Federal Chancellor had the effect at the end of November 2018 that the Federal Minister of the Interior Seehofer vetoed Schuster's appointment as head of the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution and instead appointed Thomas Haldenwang (CDU), who had been Vice President of the Federal Office since 2013.

MP

Since 2009 Armin Schuster has been a member of the German Bundestag as a member of the constituency of Lörrach - Müllheim , where he won the direct mandate .

Schuster has also been a member of the Interior Committee since 2009 and has been the chairman of the CDU / CSU parliamentary group there since 2013 . He was also chairman of the second NSU investigative committee from 2015 to 2017 .

In the 19th electoral term , Armin Schuster was elected chairman of the committee of inquiry into the attack on the Berlin Christmas market at the Memorial Church ( Anis Amri ). On September 13, 2019, the dpa reported that Schuster was stepping down from this office due to the excessive time burden imposed by the special committee.

Schuster has been a member of the Parliamentary Control Committee (PKGr) since 2013 .

On January 18, 2018, he was elected Chairman of the Parliamentary Control Body for the 19th electoral term with 557 votes .

Other engagement

Every year Schuster awards a scholarship as part of the parliamentary sponsorship program to schoolchildren or young professionals in his constituency.

Private

Armin Schuster is married, has a grown daughter with his wife and lives in Weil am Rhein- Haltingen .
