Arnold Awerzger

Arnold Awerzger (born March 27, 1907 in Radenthein ; † August 27, 1976 ) was an Austrian mining engineer and mountaineer .

From 1923 Arnold Awerzger worked for Mitterberger Kupferbergbau AG in Mühlbach am Hochkönig as a miner (Bergeleve, Hauer and Markscheidergehilfe ). In 1929 he passed the mountain guide examination and in 1931 the ski instructor examination. From 1932 to 1939 he worked as a mountain guide in summer and as a ski instructor in winter. From 1938 Awerzger studied mining at the Montanistische Hochschule in Leoben and graduated in 1941 with the title of Diplom-Bergingenieur. In 1942 and 1943 he was employed as a measurement engineer for activities in the Schlumberger process in Hanover and Vienna ; from 1943 to 1945 he was employed as a drilling engineer at the DEUTAG company in Neusiedl an der Zaya . In 1945 he became operations manager of the Austrian-American Magnesite AG (ÖAMAG) in Radenthein . In this position he dealt worldwide with deposits, extraction and processing of magnesite .

He was best known as a mountaineer. Between 1930 and 1939 he made about fifty first ascent in the Alps. In 1936 he was a participant in the German-Austrian Alpine Association expedition in the Peruvian Andes . He and Erwin Schneider were the first to climb the Pucajirca Sur (6039 m) on June 17th and the Siula Grande (6344 m) and other peaks on July 28th .

From 1959 he was a corps loop bearer of the Corps Schacht . In 1967 Arnold Awerzger was one of the co-founders of the Technical Committee for Mining History in the Austrian Mining Association and was chairman of it from March 1970. Awerzger died on August 27, 1976 of complications from a heart attack.
