Arthur "Art" Rochester (born February 25, 1944 in Los Angeles , California ) is an American sound engineer .

Life

Art Rochester has worked on numerous US films since the 1970s. His first films include Paulmichael Miekhe's thriller Maxie and Gimme Shelter , a documentary about the Rolling Stones . Films like George Lucas ' American Graffiti and Francis Ford Coppola's The Dialogue followed . For the latter, he won the BAFTA Award in 1975 and, together with Walter Murch, was nominated for an Oscar in the Best Sound category. In 1979 he received the Saturn Award from the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films for Die Körperfresser Come .

Between 1978 and 2003 Rockester was the sound engineer in nine films with Jack Nicholson . He has worked with directors such as Jerry Schatzberg , Cameron Crowe , Peter Weir and Hal Ashby , among others .

Together with Wayne Artman , Tom Beckert and Tom E. Dahl , he was nominated at the 1988 Academy Awards for The Witches of Eastwick . Further nominations followed at the 1995 Oscars for Das Kartell , at the 1997 Oscars for Con Air and at the 2004 Oscars for Master & Commander - To the End of the World . The American Cinema Audio Society nominated him for Das Kartell in the category Best Sound in a Feature Film . For his work on Master & Commander - Until the End of the World , he was awarded the Cinema Audio Society Prize, the Satellite Award and the BAFTA Award.

Rochester is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences , which awards the Academy Awards annually, the Cinema Audio Society and the Screen Actors Guild .
