Artyom Valeryevich Timofejew ( Russian Артём Валерьевич Тимофеев , English Artyom Timofeev ; born January 6, 1985 in Kazan ) is a Russian chess grandmaster .
Life
Timofejew comes from Kazan in Tatarstan . He was trained by GM Andrei Charlow, also from Tatarstan .
successes
In November 1999 in Oropesa del Mar , Spain , he finished second behind Sachar Jefymenko at the U14 World Cup . In October 2000 he was U18 European Champion in Kallithea (Chalkidiki) . At the U16 Chess Olympiad in Artek in September 2000 , he received the gold medal for his score of 6.5 out of 7 on the third board and won at the same time as the team. In November 2001 he finished second (shared with Swiad Isoria ) at the U18 World Championship in Oropesa del Mar. At the European club team championship in Kallithea (Chalkidiki) in September 2002, he received a gold medal for his result of 6 out of 7 ( Elo rating 2706 ) on the sixth board. In March 2005 he won the Russian U20 individual championship in Nojabrsk , in November 2007 the Cup of Russia in Serpukhov , in February 2008 the 4th Moscow Open and in July 2008 the 12th Izmailov Memorial in Tomsk . In September 2008 he won the Russian Higher League in Novokuznetsk , a qualifying tournament for the final of the Russian national championship . Timofejew took part in the World Chess Cup three times ( 2005 , 2009 , 2011 ). 2005 reached the second round by beating Evgeny Agrest , in which he was defeated by Emil Sutovsky . In 2009 he was victorious in the first round (against Rafael Leitão ) and failed in the second round (to Sergei Karjakin ), while in 2011 he lost to Sjarhej Asarau in the first round .
With Russia Timofejew took part in the Chess Olympiad 2010 (in the second team) and in the European team championship in 2005. In the Russian team championship he played for Ladja-Kazan-1000 from 2001 to 2007 , for Tomsk 400 from 2008 to 2010 and has played again for Kazan since 2012. He became the Russian team champion in 2002, 2003 and 2009. In the Spanish league he played for Cuna de Dragones Ajoblanco Mérida in 2006 and 2007 , in the Bosnian Premijer league for ŠK BOSNA Sarajevo , with whom he became team champion in Neum in 2008 . At the European Club Cup Timofeyev took part since 1999 ten times, including seven times with Kazan and once each with Tomsk , Bosna Sarajevo and Zurich Chess .
His best FIDE world ranking was 38th in January 2007.
