Ashley Marie Massaro (born May 26, 1979 in Babylon , Long Island , New York - † May 16, 2019 in Smithtown , Long Island, New York) was an American wrestler and model . She was under contract with World Wrestling Entertainment until her retirement in 2008 .

Wrestling career

World Wrestling Entertainment (2005-2008)

Massaro applied for a position at World Wrestling Entertainment in 2005 . It was set with a running initially to 12 months contract and allowed the then held WWE Diva Search Contest win . Massaro received a US $ 250,000 award and an official contract with World Wrestling Entertainment. She was assigned to the RAW roster and went through several feud programs there until 2006 .

On February 20, 2006, Massaro broke his ankle at a Diva's Battle Royal and had to pause until March. She signed a standard three-year WWE contract during her injury break. After her comeback, she was mainly used as a ring companion ( manager ).

In June 2006 she switched to the SmackDown ! Roster to increase the small number of divas there. Initially employed as a commentator, she was allowed to win her first match in the tag team with Jillian Hall against Kristal Marshall and Michelle McCool .

On August 4, 2006, Massaro injured his hand in a match against Kristal Marshall. After recovering, she was reinstated as a ring companion for Paul London and Brian Kendrick .

In June 2007, Massaro was "fired" by Vince McMahon to allow her to participate in a "survivor" television show. After leaving the show early, Massaro was reassigned to the RAW roster. On April 28, 2008 she had her last assignment with the WWE and announced her resignation on July 2, 2008 due to the illness of her daughter. However, she did not rule out a possible comeback in the event of a recovery.

Outside of wrestling

In 2007 Massaro took part in the reality television series Survivor : China on CBS and finished 15th and penultimate place. In the same year she played with Glenn Jacobs in an episode of the US series Smallville . She was seen in the music video for the song Hell Yeah by the band Rev Theory .

Massaro can be seen alongside her wrestling colleagues Layla El , Brooke Adams , Kelly Kelly , Torrie Wilson and Maryse Ouellet in the music video for the single Throw it on me (featuring The Hives ) by producer Timbaland .

In April 2007, Massaro had a photo series in Playboy . She had previously completed two shootings in 2003 and 2004 under the pseudonym Ryan MacKenzie.

She was dating a drummer and WWE wrestlers Matt Hardy and Paul London .

In 2016, Massaro reported that she was raped at a 2006 WWE event at a US military base in Kuwait.

Massaro was found lifeless in her home in May 2019. She was taken to a nearby hospital where she was found dead. Suicide by hanging was found to be the cause of death.
