Glenn Thomas Jacobs (born April 26, 1967 in Torrejón de Ardoz , Spain ), better known by his ring name Kane , is an American wrestler and politician . He is currently under contract with WWE and occasionally appears in their wrestling shows. Jacobs has served as Mayor of Knox County , Tennessee, since September 1, 2018 .

Private life

Glenn Jacobs was born in Madrid as the son of a US soldier stationed there, but grew up in Bowling Green , Missouri . There he started playing basketball in high school . He studied English at Northeast Missouri State University , but achieved only a bachelor's degree in 1991 due to a change in the curriculum and therefore no teaching certificate. Here, too, Jacobs played basketball and American football . Jacobs has been married to his wife Crystal since 1995 and they have two daughters together. The family lives in Jefferson City , Tennessee . Jacobs owned a gym in Sevierville, Tennessee. In 2002, Kane won The Weakest Link's second WWF special (US version of The Weakest Flies ) and grossed $ 83,500 for St. Jude's Children's Hospital in Tennessee. In fact, he's a little over 6'8 '' tall, and he wears insole shoes when performing to appear taller. Despite reaching a height of 6 feet 10 inches, the WWE lists him at 7 feet.

Wrestling career

Beginnings

Jacobs made his wrestling debut in 1992 as an Unabomb with the United States Wrestling Association (USWA). There he also competed under the names Doomsday and The Christmas Creature and was able to win the USWA Heavyweight Champion title. As an Unabomb, he was Tag Team Champion at Smoky Mountain Wrestling with Al Snow . Also in other independent leagues, such as B. in Tennessee he was active as (Mike) Unabomb . World Wrestling Federation / Entertainment (since 1995)

Creation of Kane and The Brothers of Destruction (1995-2002)

In the summer of 1995, Jacobs made his debut with the World Wrestling Federation at the side of Jerry Lawler . As an evil dentist Dr. Isaac Yankem feuded it against Bret Hart .

In the fall of 1996, Jacobs slipped into the role of Diesel , as Kevin Nash , who had performed under this name until then, had left the WWF for the competitor league WCW . However, this gimmick was quickly discarded because it was not well received by the fans.

Jacobs has played the wrestler Kane since 1997. According to the storyline, he is the Undertaker's half-brother and wore a mask because his face was disfigured in a house fire set off by the Undertaker. Jacobs made his debut as Kane with PPV WWF In Your House: Bad Blood when he intervened in the Hell in a Cell match between Undertaker and Shawn Michaels . He feuded against Mankind , Vader and Steve Austin .

At the big event King of the Ring in 1998 Jacobs was allowed to win the WWF Champion title from Steve Austin , but lost it to him again the next evening.

On July 13, 1998 Jacobs became the new WWF Tag Team Champion together with Mankind . After a short-lived team with Big Show , he allied himself with the Undertaker and both feuded against Steve Austin under the name Brothers of Destruction . He then formed teams with Chyna and then with X-Pac .

At the end of 1999, the WWF separated the X-Pac and Kane team. Kane reunited with Undertaker and both won the 2001 World Tag Team Championship. At WrestleMania XVII, Jacobs was able to prevail against Raven and Big Show and become Hardcore Champion . At Backlash , he and Undertaker had to surrender the tag team title to Triple H and Steve Austin.

At Judgment Day 2001, Jacobs was allowed to receive the Intercontinental Title from Triple H. Shortly afterwards he won the WWE Tag Team title again together with Undertaker, and later followed - in the course of the WWE vs. Alliance Feud - the WCW Tag Team Title . Towards the end of 2001 he had to take an injury break.

Unmasking and storyline with Lita (2002-2005)

In the summer of 2002, Jacobs returned to WWE and was now part of the RAW roster. Shortly after his return, he won the tag team title of Lance Storm and Christian Cage with The Hurricane . In September of the same year he received the WWE Intercontinental Championship from Chris Jericho , whom he lost to Triple H at No Mercy .

One day after WrestleMania XIX , Jacobs took off the tag team title with Rob Van Dam Chief Morley and Lance Storm . At Bad Blood 2003 this was taken from them by La Résistance ( René Duprée and Sylvain Grenier).

In June 2003, after losing a match to Triple H, he had to take off his face mask after about six years. Then Jacobs feuded successfully against Shane McMahon and then again against Undertaker.

At the Taboo Tuesday 2005 event , fans voted for Kane and Big Show to compete against reigning World Tag Team Champions Lance Cade and Trevor Murdoch . They were allowed to win the match and receive the World Tag Team Championship belt. The two had to give up the title on April 3, 2006 at RAW to Kenny and Mikey from the group "Spirit Squad". A feud with Big Show ensued.

Various feuds and World Heavyweight Champion (2005-2010)

He then feuded against Andrew William Hankinson, who appeared with his old gimmick of full body suit and mask. In the Raw edition on October 9, 2006 Jacobs lost a "Loser Leaves Raw" match against Umaga and had to leave Raw as part of the storyline.

Jacobs switched to SmackDown! and started a feud against MVP . He then feuded against William Regal , Dave Taylor and Mark Henry . Then Jacobs Roster feuded across the board against Big Daddy V from the ECW.

At WrestleMania 24 , Jacobs was able to prevail in a Battle Royal and win the ECW Champion title from Chavo Guerrero on the same evening , with which he switched to the ECW squad. At the big event Night Of Champions he had to hand over the ECW Championship to Mark Henry.

Before losing the title, Jacobs moved back to RAW through the WWE Draft on June 23, 2008. This was followed by a feud against Rey Mysterio until the end of 2008. A year later, he switched back to SmackDown. There he started a feud against The Great Khali .

At the big event Money In The Bank on July 18, 2010, Jacobs won the ladder match of the same name of the SmackDown squad. On the same evening he redeemed the contract, won against Rey Mysterio and received the World Heavyweight Championship title from this. As the first WWE Superstar, he was allowed to win all three main WWE titles: the WWE Championship as well as the two World Heavyweight Championship and the ECW Championship, which have since been discontinued .

This was followed by feuds against Undertaker and Edge, in which he won the World Heavyweight Championship at the major event TLC: Tables, Ladders & Chairs in a four-way TLC match in which Rey Mysterio and Alberto Del Rio were also involved had to give up.

In the wake of a feud against the group The Corre , Jacobs won the WWE Tag Team Championship again on April 19, 2011, along with Big Show by Heath Slater and Justin Gabriel . They lost the title on May 23, 2011 on RAW to David Otunga and Michael McGillicutty of The New Nexus .

This was followed by another break from Jacobs in the period from late July to early December 2011, according to storyline, because of an injury that Mark Henry had inflicted on him.

Return with Mask and The Authority (2011-2015)

On December 12, 2011, he returned to RAW at the Slammy Awards, where he intervened in the match between Henry and John Cena . Jacobs now appeared masked again - as in the early days as Kane . After feuds against John Cena and Randy Orton , he denied programs against CM Punk and Daniel Bryan for the WWE Championship , but remained there unsuccessfully. Jacobs later feuded against Bryan and won after founding a tag team (Team Hell No) with this on September 16, 2012, the WWE Tag Team Championship from Kofi Kingston and R-Truth . Both held the title until May 19, 2013, when they lost it in St. Louis to Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins of "The Shield".

After a two-month hiatus, Kane returned to the Hell in a Cell event on October 27 and attacked both the Wyatt Family and The Miz . The next night on Raw, he swore allegiance to Stephanie McMahon by handing her his mask. He affirmed his loyalty over the next week by assisting members of the Authority. As part of his character change, he wore a suit and tie and was given a fictional role as "Director of Operations".

After WrestleMania XXX , Stephanie McMahon cursed Kane and asked him to find "The Big Red Monster" that he was before. He returned that same week masked. On the April 21 episode of Raw, Stephanie McMahon announced that Kane would be the number one challenger to the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at Extreme Rules. A feud against Daniel Bryan ensued .

On the August 4th episode of Raw, after Kane lost to Roman Reigns in a Last Man Standing match, he returned his mask to Stephanie McMahon . The following week on Raw , Kane resumed his role as Director of Operations.

Shortly before the Pay-Per-View Battleground, Kane was written off the shows after an attack by Brock Lesnar . On September 20, a masked Kane returned at Night of Champions and began a feud with Seth Rollins . With Rollins' victory at PPV Hell in a Cell , the feud ended on October 25, 2015.

Occasional appearances (since 2015)

On the occasion of the Undertaker's 25th WWE anniversary in November 2015, the PPV Survivor Series was dedicated to Kane's storyline brother . Here he appeared again together with Undertaker as "The Brothers Of Destruction". They won their match against the Wyatt Family ( Bray Wyatt and Luke Harper ).

After that, Kane appeared primarily in house shows and was only seen occasionally on TV shows. At the PPV Royal Rumble he took part in the Royal Rumble Match of the same name on January 24, 2016. Including all his gimmicks , he is the record holder with 19 participations in the annual Royal Rumble Match . He also holds the record for most consecutive appearances in Rumble (13 from 1999 to 2011).

For some time, the feud program against Bray Wyatt has been running mainly in the house shows, but also in the TV shows. This culminated on February 21, 2016 at the PPV Fastlane . There was a 6 man tag team match with Kane, Big Show and Ryback on one side and the Wyatt Family (Luke Harper, Erick Rowan and Braun Strowman ) on the other.

Big Show and Ryback were drawn into the storyline through assaults by the Wyatt Family. In the end, the team made up of Kane, Big Show and Ryback was able to win. The match series between Kane and Bray Wyatt continued for some time in the house shows.

On April 3, 2016 at WrestleMania 32 he was a participant in the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal . Kane was then last eliminated from the match by the winner of the match, Baron Corbin .

Team Hell No at SmackDown in 2018.

After WrestleMania , Kane was mostly seen in house shows. With the split of the shows on July 19, 2016, Kane became part of the SmackDown rooster. In September another feud against the Wyatt Family began. On September 11th at the PPV Backlash he was allowed to defeat Bray Wyatt in a No Holds Barred match .

After a turn by Randy Orton on the side of the Wyatt Family, he feuded against this too. Before that, both had competed against the Wyatt Family in a few tag team matches. The feud was also carried back into the house shows. At the PPV Survivor Series on November 20th, he was allowed to win against Luke Harper. This was followed by a longer break.

On October 16, 2017, Kane returned to Raw Brand. Kane returned on the June 26th episode of SmackDown Live , rescuing Daniel Bryan from SmackDown Tag Team Champions The Bludgeon Brothers. At Extreme Rules, Team Hell No was attacked by the Bludgeon Brothers before their match because Kane had to take a break from injury.

On September 16, 2019, he won the WWE 24/7 Championship from R-Truth , but lost it to him that same night.

Outside of wrestling

He played the lead role of Jacob Goodnight in the horror film See No Evil (WWE production). A second part was released in October 2014. In 2016 he played a supporting role in the film Countdown - A cop sees red with Dolph Ziggler .

In 2007, Jacobs and Ashley made a guest appearance on the American series Smallville (as a phantom zone refugee Titan ).

Jacobs is a member of the Libertarian Party . In 2017, he announced he was running for Mayor of Knox County , Tennessee , and was elected on August 2, 2018. He was the candidate of the Republican Party .
