Askuiner

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Askuiner (also: Hemma-Askuin clan ) were a highly free noble family that appeared as hereditary bailiffs of Gurk from the 11th century to the first half of the 12th century, especially in the Carinthian area .

history

Countess Hemma von Gurk , a blood relative of the Askuiner, had dedicated large parts of her huge lands in what would later become Lower Styria and the Windische Mark to her Gurk monastery , from which the Gurk diocese emerged after her death . The Askuins had to make do with the rest of the inheritance, which was still of considerable size.

In the investiture dispute they lost influence, dignity and property in the fight against the Spanheimers on the papal side in 1105/06. A branch of this sex, the Lords or Counts of Weichselburg , settled in Carniola and died out in the male line in 1209.

The area around Windischgraz came from the Askuins to the Spanheimers in 1105/06; from the area around Mahrenberg (Radlje ob Dravi), Count Werigand handed over goods ad Radelach sita (30 men) to Archbishop Konrad I von Abensberg to atone for crimes against his predecessor, Thiemo von Salzburg . Konrad passed these goods on to Admont in 1139 , who in turn left them to Bernhard von Trixen and his wife Kunigunde for lifelong use.

Castle and rule Löwenberg / Lemberg near Neuhaus / Dobrna were inherited from the Askuins to Count Hartwig von Bogen ; the latter sold it to Gurk in 1147.
