Athirson Mazzoli de Oliveira , or Athirson for short , (born January 16, 1977 in Rio de Janeiro ) is a former Brazilian football player .
Career
Athirson played for Flamengo Rio de Janeiro , Santos FC , Juventus Turin and Cruzeiro Belo Horizonte between 1998 and 2005 . In 1999 he took part in the Confederations Cup in Mexico with the Brazilian national team and played an international match against New Zealand . After a positive doping test , he was banned for 29 days in 2000. For the 2005/06 season Athirson moved to the German club Bayer 04 Leverkusen in the Bundesliga .
After the 2006/07 season, Athirson's contract with Bayer was terminated . He made two goals in 30 Bundesliga games. In August 2007 he signed a contract with the Brazilian club Botafogo FR .
