Achchoi-Martan ( Russian Ачхо́й-Марта́н , Chechen ТӀехьа-Марта Teha-Marta ) is a village (selo) in the Republic of Chechnya ( Russia ) with 20,172 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).

geography

The settlement is located on the northern edge of the Greater Caucasus , the foothills of which rise a few kilometers south of the village to a height of 600  m . The village is located about 35 km as the crow flies west-southwest of the republic capital Grozny on the Fortanga, a tributary of the right Terek tributary Sunscha 10 km above the mouth.

Achchoi-Martan is the administrative center of the Achchoi-Martan Rajon of the same name .

history

The old Chechen village was initially known under the name Achegi-Kala (Russian Ачеги-Кала , Chech . Ӏаьчка-ГӀала ). On January 23, 1935, it became the administrative center of a newly founded Rajons of the same name. During the period of the abolition of Chechen autonomy and the deportation of the Chechen population from 1944 to 1957, Raion and village were given the Russian name Novoselskoye .

During the First Chechen War 1994–1996, the village was badly damaged.

Infrastructure

The M29 trunk road from Rostov-on-Don to the Azerbaijani border passes about six kilometers north of the village . A few kilometers across the road is the nearest Samashkinskaya train station on the Beslan – Grosny – Gudermes railway line .
