Au (or: Zainwörth ) is a village and a cadastral municipality in the Strengberg municipality in the Amstetten district in Lower Austria . The village formerly called Zainwörth was abandoned after several floods of the Danube .

The place is mentioned for the first time in 1435 and was previously called Zainwörth . The place used to be on an island surrounded by arms of the Danube and the Aubach , it was not until the 18th century that the Donauau silted up. After several flood disasters, it was decided in 2002 to relocate the place. Now there are only a few houses and the au chapel.

Settlement development

At the turn of the year 1979/1980 there were 82 building areas on a total of 30,018 m² and 109 gardens on 410,640 m², in 1989/1990 there were 81 building areas. In 1999/2000 the number of building areas had increased to 128. In 2009/2010 there were 58 buildings on 86 construction areas. The remaining buildings are mostly in a flood-proof location.

Agriculture

The cadastral community is characterized by agriculture. 221 hectares were used for agriculture at the turn of 1979/1980 and 205 hectares were forest areas. In 1999/2000 agriculture was carried out on 273 hectares and 187 hectares were designated as forest areas. At the end of 2018, 276 hectares were used as agricultural land and forestry was carried out on 195 hectares. The average soil climate number of Au is 37.5 (as of 2010).
