August Wilhelm von Hertig

August Wilhelm von Hertig (born July 26, 1740 in Küstrin ; † August 20, 1815 in Charlottenburg ) was Prussian major general and most recently the commander of Artillery Regiment No. 4 , from Hertig since May 18, 1798 .

Life

August Wilhelm von Hertig entered Prussian service on September 19, 1757 and joined the field artillery corps . During the Seven Years' War he fought in the battles near Zorndorf (wounded), Kunersdorf , Liegnitz and Torgau as well as the sieges of Olomouc and Breslau . He became a fireworker in 1761 and second lieutenant on October 18, 1762 .

In 1778 there was the War of the Bavarian Succession . On February 5, 1782, he became Premier-Lieutenant and on June 6, 1786, he was appointed captain of the Artillery Regiment No. 2 . On February 4, 1792 he came to the Artillery Regiment No. 1 as captain and company commander , and on November 3, 1794 he was appointed major . In the years 1796 to 1801 was on the demarcation line between Prussia and the French with the observation corps in Westphalia. On May 18, 1798 he was raised to the nobility and on June 15, 1800 promoted to lieutenant colonel. In 1801 Gerhard von Scharnhorst came into Prussian service. This changed as a lieutenant colonel from the Hanoverian service, received a patent dated June 14, 1800 and thus ranked directly before Hertig.

On September 17, 1805 he became a colonel and commander of the 4th Artillery Regiment in Koenigsberg . He lived through the Fourth Coalition War , where he fought as commander of the artillery in Corps L'Estocq in Prussia. For this he received the Pour le Mérite on September 16, 1807 for his 50th anniversary in service . On 21 February 1809, he received his farewell with 800 thaler board and the character of major general.

family

Hertig married Dorothea Sophie Meinike on August 30, 1792 in Berlin (baptized December 17, 1752; † March 3, 1814), the daughter of a businessman. The couple had the following children:

  • Karl Wilhelm (born October 4, 1783), 1806 in the Isenburg corps, missing
  • Christian Friedrich Wilhelm (born August 14, 1886)
  • Friedrich Wilhelm Ernst (born August 17, 1788; † February 28, 1834), retired major in the artillery. D.
  • Dorothea Wilhelmine Auguste (* February 20, 1795)
  • Johann Ludwig (born April 29, 1794), joined the artillery in 1816, later in the Dutch service
