history
On May 1, 1893, the SAC Bachtel signed a contract with the then Bachtelwirt to build an iron tower on the Bachtel . The tower on the Eschenberg near Winterthur served as a model . The 54 meter high tower was built in record time and inaugurated on August 19, 1893. Without transports and foundations, it cost 12,700 francs. In the middle, a staircase with 159 steps led to the viewing platform at a height of 30 meters.
The steel lattice tower was placed under monument protection in 1979. Since it was not sufficient as an antenna carrier, it was dismantled by the PTT in 1985 and its parts stored. In 1992 it was rebuilt on the pan handle above the Hochwacht restaurant.
