The Austrian Football League 2011 is the 27th season of the top Austrian men's American football division . It began on March 19, 2011 with the game of the Prague Panthers against the Black Lions from Carinthia (28:42) and ended on June 23, 2011 with a victory of the Swarco Raiders Tirol against the Raiffeisen Vikings Vienna (23:13) in the Austrian Bowl XXVII in front of an Austrian record crowd of 9,634 spectators in Vienna's Ernst Happel Stadium .
Compared to the AFL of the 26th season there were hardly any structural changes in contrast to the previous years. Above all, however, the Generali Invaders' exit from St. Pölten for financial reasons and the associated reduction from eight to seven teams required a change in the schedule.
Due to the World Championship taking place in Austria , the basic round will be played in a slightly abbreviated mode as in 2010. Each team will play three home games in the seven weeks of play. The best four teams of the regular season take part in the playoffs, with the first two having home rights . Its winners play in the Austrian Bowl for the Austrian title.
After the ORF had barely reported on the AFL the year before , games were broadcast live on television again this season. In addition to two basic games and the Austrian Bowl XXVII, the Charity Bowl 2011 could also be seen on television.
