The Bratislava Monarchs were the last place of last season as a sporting relegated firm and were Amstetten Thunder , the winners of the Division I , replaced. However, the monarchs preferred a complete exit from the Austrian league system to relegation. The Ljubljana Silverhawks , who had achieved relegation in 2018, withdrew from the AFL due to financial difficulties. In contrast, the Prague Black Panthers are returning to the AFL despite being withdrawn after the 2015 season and lacking athletic qualifications.

Austrian Bowl
The Austrian Bowl was played on July 27th in the NV Arena in St. Pölten. In front of 5,546 spectators, the two dominating teams of the Austrian Football League played an exciting game with many points.
The game was characterized by countless textbook scenes - the audience was shown football at its finest. Dacia Vikings receiver Yannick Mayr brought his team to the front after a remarkable catch and a total of 59 yards of space after just under seven minutes. After the Raiders had equalized in the meantime with a touchdown from Fabian Abfalter, it was again the Vikings who took the lead again in the form of Maurice Wappl and his impressive catch and subsequent run over a total of 61 yards. The Dacia Vikings did not give up this lead until the break, at halftime the Viennese were leading 28:21.
Shortly after the break, the Raiders managed to equalize again through quarterback Sean Shelton. As a result, last year's champion took courage and took the lead for the first time with a spectacular rushing touchdown over 70 yards from Raiders running back Sandro Platzgummer. This changed little until the end, because the Dacia Vikings scored six more points through Maurice Wappl, but the PAT failed. Thus the Swarco Raiders Tirol defended the championship title with an extremely entertaining 42:34 final victory over the Dacia Vikings.
