Axel Friederichs (* 1961 ) is a German prehistorian and archaeologist who has headed the Osnabrück City and District Archeology since 2017 .

Career

Axel Friederichs already took part in excavations as a schoolboy and had early contact with the Osnabrück city and district archaeologist Wolfgang Schlueter . In the 1980s, Friederichs studied prehistory and early history at the University of Göttingen , which he completed with a Magister Artium on two urn cemeteries from the late Bronze Age and early Iron Age in the Osnabrück districts of Düstrup and Galgenesch. He then worked on numerous excavations at home and abroad.

From 1990 onwards, Friederichs was a trainee and lecturer at the Westphalian Museum of Archeology / Office for Monument Preservation in Münster for over two years . Then he briefly took part in the project " Kalkriese - Romans in the Osnabrücker Land ". In 1993, as a member of the State Office for Archeology in Saxony, he headed a major excavation in Leipzig . After his return to Lower Saxony, Friederichs carried out numerous excavations and projects in the Osnabrück region and in the former Weser-Ems administrative region . He also supported the Osnabrück City and District Archeology, which is responsible for the city of Osnabrück and the Osnabrück district. In 2003, when Bodo Zehm the management of this department was transferred, he appointed Axel Friederichs his deputy, of the activities over the years in part-time work exercised. After Zehm's retirement in 2017, Friederichs became his successor.

Axel Friederichs is a member of the board of directors of the Archaeological Commission for Lower Saxony as treasurer. He lives in Bramsche .
