The Azamara Pursuit is a cruise ship operated by Azamara Club Cruises .

history

The ship was built under the name R Eight as the last R-class ship for Renaissance Cruises . In 2001 the R Eight was put into service, but only a few months later after the shipping company went bankrupt it was put up for sale again and launched in Marseille . It was not until 2003 that the ship was sold to the British shipping company Swan Hellenic and put into service as Minerva II . On April 7, 2007 she made her last voyage under this name and was then sold to Princess Cruises and renamed Royal Princess . On 21 May 2011, the ship was finally on P & O Cruises sold and in a solemn ceremony of Shirley Bassey in Adonia renamed. From April 2016, the Adonia was used under the fathom brand . However, this brand was given up in the summer of 2017 and the Adonia switched back to P&O Cruises.

The Adonia was sold to Azamara Club Cruises , a subsidiary of Royal Caribbean Cruises , in March 2018 and renamed Azamara Pursuit on March 14, 2018 , and the ship has been flying the flag of Malta ever since . From April 4, 2018 to July 24, 2018, the ship was converted for £ 50 million at Harland & Wolff in Belfast and has been used in the cruise service ever since. The christening was scheduled for August 28, 2018 in Southampton . Due to the COVID-19 pandemic , the ship was withdrawn from service and has been in Glasgow since June 1, 2020.

Incidents

On June 18, 2009, a fire broke out in the engine room of the Royal Princess during a cruise off the coast of Egypt . She had to return to Port Said for repairs .

On March 18, 2013, two Adonia passengers were shot while on shore leave in Bridgetown harbor and had to be treated in the local hospital. Presumably the perpetrators were robbers who wanted to rob the tourists.
