Bácsszőlős is a Hungarian community in the county Bácsalmás in Bács-Kiskun . The settlements Dobokanagyjárás, Kunbajapuszta, Ószőlők and Telekiszőlők belong to the municipality.
Geographical location
Bácsszőlős is located about seven kilometers east of the district town of Bácsalmás and four kilometers from the border with Serbia . Neighboring communities are Csikéria and Kunbaja .
history
The wine and fruit growing plays an important role for the city. Various grape varieties have been grown on the sandy soils of the region since the end of the 19th century. The Bácsalmás-Csikéria- Subotica railway, built in 1885, ran through the area and contributed to the development of the wine trade. Bácsszőlős has been an independent municipality since 1952, before it belonged to the city of Bácsalmás. In 1960 passenger and freight traffic on the railway line was stopped. In the 1960s and 1970s, the area under cultivation for grape and fruit production was 1,800 hectares. After the system change, a large proportion of the workforce lost their jobs in the early 1990s, which in the following years led to an increase in the number of abandoned homesteads and a decline in the population. Because of this, the primary school was closed in 1999, so that children have to attend primary schools in Csikéria or Bácsalmás.
